Description

A Scottish Baronial mansion of imposing splendour.

Rothes Glen House is a fine example of the Scottish Baronial style of architecture and is characterised by a square central tower rising one storey above the roof line on its eastern façade and its corbelled and crowstepped gables.

The tower itself is four stories high and has corbelled and crenellated wallhead with cannon water spouts and culminates in an angle stair turret with conical roof.
The main entrance, a simple Neo-Jacobean door piece with coat of arms above is central to the southern façade which boats rectangular tripartite projecting windows and two angle drum towers - one with a bellcast conical slated roof, the other with a lower square oriel.

The vestibule opens into a stunning reception hall with hand paved Italian mosaic tiled floor, a magnificent stone staircase, and a first floor gallery with light flooding in via a stained glass cupola. From the reception hall are the main reception rooms which retain many original features including guilded cornices, panelled ceilings and some lovely Carrera marble fireplaces. These include drawing room, sitting room, ball room, smoke room and the dining room.

The family room, informal dining room, and library are paved with Victorian tiles and enjoy open fireplaces and wood burning stoves.

There are also sitting rooms on the first and second floors.

There is a tower room with panoramic views of the lochan, trout farm and the hills beyond.

The first floor has a boudoir, 2 bedroom suites and 5 further bedrooms all with ensuite facilities and the nursery quarter with playroom/sitting room, bedroom and bathroom.

On the second floor there is one bedroom suite and 3 further ensuite bedrooms.

A turnpike stair leads to the tower room.

The layout of the rooms is shown on the enclosed floor plans.

Situation

Rothes Glen House is about 2 miles north from the village of Rothes which provides a range of small shops and other everyday amenities. Aberlour (7 miles) has both primary and secondary schools, a health centre and supermarket whilst Elgin, (8 miles) offers a comprehensive range of high street shops, tourist facilities and businesses. Just to the north of Elgin is Gordonstoun School.

Road communications to the area are via the A95 which connects to the A9, the main north / south arterial route. There are main line railway stations at Elgin, Aviemore, Inverness and Aberdeen and there are airports at both Inverness and Aberdeen which both have flights to a number of UK cities and other European destinations.

The property is surrounded by beautiful countryside which offers a wealth of opportunities for outdoor pursuits including pheasant and grouse shooting, roe and red deer stalking and salmon fishing on the renowned River Spey. Skiing is available at both Aviemore and the Lecht, beaches on Lossiemouth & Findhorn and there are a number of golf courses in the area.

Outside

Rothes Glen House is approached through private gates and along a tarred, tree lined drive which continues to a fork at the front of the house. A secondary drive continues around the back of the house and to the garage at the rear gate.

Immediately surrounding the house are areas of formal lawns, a lovely patio with a fountain, a newly established rose garden and a beautiful row of flowering cherry trees. There is also s further 6 acres of parkland and policy woodland.

To the south east of the house is a well established lochan with an island which is a haven for a wild variety of wildlife and is accessed by a wooden bridge.

Directions

From Aberdeen Airport take the A96 to Keith and then the A95 to Craigellachie. Proceed onto the A941 towards Rothes where you will find the property a couple of miles outside Rothes on the left hand side.

From Inverness Airport take the A96 towards Elgin. From Elgin take the A941 towards Rothes where you will find the property located on the right hand side a couple of miles prior to Rothes.
