Description
A Scottish Baronial mansion of imposing splendour.
Rothes Glen House is a fine example of the Scottish Baronial style of architecture and is characterised by a square central tower rising one storey above the roof line on its eastern façade and its corbelled and crowstepped gables.
The tower itself is four stories high and has corbelled and crenellated wallhead with cannon water spouts and culminates in an angle stair turret with conical roof.
The main entrance, a simple Neo-Jacobean door piece with coat of arms above is central to the southern façade which boats rectangular tripartite projecting windows and two angle drum towers - one with a bellcast conical slated roof, the other with a lower square oriel.
The vestibule opens into a stunning reception hall with hand paved Italian mosaic tiled floor, a magnificent stone staircase, and a first floor gallery with light flooding in via a stained glass cupola. From the reception hall are the main reception rooms which retain many original features including guilded cornices, panelled ceilings and some lovely Carrera marble fireplaces. These include drawing room, sitting room, ball room, smoke room and the dining room.
The family room, informal dining room, and library are paved with Victorian tiles and enjoy open fireplaces and wood burning stoves.
There are also sitting rooms on the first and second floors.
There is a tower room with panoramic views of the lochan, trout farm and the hills beyond.
The first floor has a boudoir, 2 bedroom suites and 5 further bedrooms all with ensuite facilities and the nursery quarter with playroom/sitting room, bedroom and bathroom.
On the second floor there is one bedroom suite and 3 further ensuite bedrooms.
A turnpike stair leads to the tower room.
The layout of the rooms is shown on the enclosed floor plans.
